Remote Access/Desktop
How can I set up my home computer (running Windows ME) to be accessed from
my computer at work -- a laptop on a network? The laptop is running Windows XP. Both computers have Remote Desktop Connection installed, and I can access my work LAN from home using it, (I'm on a cable modem) but I can't go in the other direction. I'm running Zone Alarm on my home computer, and I think I've set it up to allow access from my laptop's IP address. My help files in Windows ME seem to be telling me that my home computer isn't set up for remote access from another computer, but they don't tell me how to set it up. Thanks. Gene |

Gene Perhaps I should add that, if I try to connect to my home computer at work (I enter its IP address in the blank that says "computer"), I get a message saying that "the client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection." I've checked the IP addresses for both computers. Gene |

Gene, Win Me has no remote desktop so cannot be accessed from a PC running the remote desktop client although, as you say, Win Me can run the remote desktop client so as to be able to access PCs that do support the remote desktop such as XP Pro. To do what you want you will need to install and use a third party product such as RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/). Thanks, I'll check it out. Would I install on just the ME computer, or both computers? Gene |
