Default How to associated PDF files with current Adobe reader??

My computer runs Windows ME.

My old Adobe reader wasn't handling all the fonts I wanted, so I downloaded
Acrobat 6.0 and deleted the old reader, hoping that pdf's would
automatically be associated with the new reader. That didn't happen.

How do I associate e-mailed and website pdf files with the reader version
that's now on my computer?

Which application are your PDF files associated with now? Uninstalling an
older version of Acrobat and installing a newer version should have
associated PDF files with your current version of Acrobat. Nevertheless,
to solve your problem, right click on a PDF file, select Open With, browse
to the installed version of Acrobat, check the box to "Always use these
programs to open these files" and click OK.

Thanks, Mike. Well - I THOUGHT I had uninstalled the old Acrobat 3.0 once,
but it was still there. (Could there have been 2 copies on my system?)
Anyhow, it's gone and 6.0 comes up now. However, so does a pop-up for
"Available Updates." No "available updates" show in the choice box, and I
can X-out with no problem. Just a nuisance. It appears that Acrobat 6.0 is
accessing the internet before the pop-up shows. It's some Adobe thing. Any
suggestions on that one appreciated.

You can set Acrobat's preferences to meet your requirements. One of these
is whether to check for updates or not.

Start Acrobat, then Edit | Preferences, select Update in the left hand
column and then, in the right hand pane, change Check for Update to
Manually or whatever is your preference.

Thanks again, Mike!

Can I try for 3-for-3?

When I start a "Search" it always defaults to: C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu

I would like it to default to: IBM_PRELOAD (C

Is there a way to do that?

Search using which tool and launched from where? I assume IBM_PRELOAD is
the name of your C: drive and that you want your search to be of the
entire C drive rather than just the Windows\Start Menu. For example if I
use Start | Search | Files and Folders by default I search all the hard
drives on the system.

Right click "Start" in MS Windows, then left click "Search." IBM_PRELOAD is
the name of my C drive under "My Computer."

Start | Search | For Files or Folders should, as I mentioned in my
previous post, by default search all of your hard drives including C:
(IBM_PRELOAD) rather than just C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu. That it does not is
odd and suggests that something is amiss. Just so that I am clear about
what you are seeing, when you click Start | Search | For Files or Folders
and the Search Results window opens you are seeing in the left hand pane
C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu in the box labelled "Look in:" rather than "Local
Hard Drives (C:....)"?

What happens if you select "Local Hard Drives.." and then close the window
and then start a new search? Does it revert to C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu or
is it now Local Hard Drives (C:..)?

Ahhh! Don't right click on the Start button and choose search but instead
click Start | Search | For Files or Folders. Right clicking on the Start
button searches by default the Start Menu because that is where the Start
button is.

I hate it when computers do what I tell them to do, not what I wanted!

Yep, you are right Mike - and "Local Hard Drives" does search my system hard
drive.

Thanks again.

As do I. It would have probably helped if I had actually read and
understood your post. For some reason I failed to "read" that your were
right clicking on Start and then selecting Search rather than clicking
Start | Search | Find Files or Folders. I spent several minutes trying to
get the results you were seeing until suddenly the light dawned and I
actually read what you had typed and realised what you were doing to get
what you were seeing. vbg

Cheers,
