PC-cillin, WinMe and ICS combo
I am looking to establish a dialog with someone who is using PC-cillin 2000
(Trendmicro AV), WinME, and using the pc as an ICS host. Anyone using PC-cillin 2000 may know, Trenmicro is issuing a crtical update that replaces the 3-digit style of number virus databases to a longer numbering system. I am wondering if any PC-cillin 2000 users have applied the update on their WinME pcs. The update seems to be practically the full V.11 package at 32meg. I have also heard that PC-cillin's firewall feature is problematic with ICS, so I wondering if anyone has definitive insight and experience with that. BTW.. I am very confused about the version numbering of PC-cillin. Is "2000" their version "7"? |

I had PC-cillin 2000, when I looked for a way to update to the new pattern numbering system I found it would no longer be supported. I was told that as I bought a previous version, I was entitled to a free upgrade to the 2004 version (mine shows as v.11.31). It appears that there is a yearly charge for updates (£20), The following is part of an e-mail I received from Trend Support, hope it explains things for you: We suggest that you upgrade to PC-cillin 2004 Internet Security. Since you are an owner of the previous version of the program , you are valid to have a 50% off , you will only be paying 24.95$ instead of 50$ . To upgrade, kindly visit http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec...P=0&CACHE_ID=0. If you reside outside the US/Canada area, kindly purchase from http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec...P=0&CACHE_ID=0 . For the Australian Region, kindly visit: http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec...P=0&CACHE_ID=0. NOTE: Prices may vary on different locations. Prices are unchangable or could not be interchanged. Are your products new pattern formats (NPF) compliant? Please see http://www.trendmicro.com/npf to verify product compliancy |

So the upgrade isn't quite free as is implied on the website (with the
yearly charge for updates). I have a perfectly fine (and registered) version of 2000 that I have been using since 1999. My version of PC-cillin 2000 is part of an OEM install. Looks like they expect people to subscribe to yearly updates now? Do you use the firewall feature in the 2004 version and ICS? "Smirnoff" wrote in message ... Yes, I use the firewall. I've still a few days left on the trial version
but I intend to pay the £20. I find it a very useful program and I have had no conflicts with it attempting to stop anything that I want downloading. So far, updates have been coming thick and fast and it works out at about 38p per week. aa wrote: So the upgrade isn't quite free as is implied on the website (with the yearly charge for updates). Sorry, my fault. Didn't read the OP's question fully (in fact it was a
multi-part question). No, I don't have ICS, I was trying to explain the reason why you have to pay for the so called "free" upgrade and that you can get a discount if you own a previous version. oozy wrote: So.. you use the Firewall AND the Internet Connection Sharing enabled?
