Default Need to have Administrative status?

Alll of a sudden my W98 tells me I need Administrator Status (or similar
words) to access System Monitor.

I have a connected LAN (Laptop running XP), and have done for a long time.
It has never asked me for this before.

How do I get round this problem?

If you are getting a logon prompt asking you for a name and password, and
you click the Cancel button to get past that prompt, that can cause this
problem.

No, I am not getting a password prompt at logon. I purposely did not do this
as I am the only user.

I still get the abitity to change settings etc.

It only seems to have happened after I loaded 'System Monitor' from the W98
CD.

I do not get the message anywhere else.

How do I make myself the adminstrator?

Try this - click the Start button, then use the log off menu item. When you
are prompted to log back on again, put in a name but no password, then
confirm the "new" password at the next prompt. See if your problem goes
away then. It should.

Tried this but still cannot access System Monitor. I have tried deleting
System Monitor, (tick box in Settings/add remove programs/windows setup) and
re-install but find it does not re-install and cannot find sysmon.exe on the
W98 CD.

(I have had a load of problems with Macafee Firewall and wonder whether this
has caused the problem. I have manually uninstalled/reinstalled Macafee via
registry. All Ok now)

When I install System Monitor do I have to install all the System programs
and then delete the ones I do not want?

You should be able to install/uninstall the system tools individually.
