Default Lost 2nd hard drive with Zip install

Hoping someone can help. I have a 600Mhz PC running
Win98. I have two hard drives on the primary IDE
controller and a CD-RW on the second. I wanted to add an
internal Zip drive I have as a slave on the secondary,
but when I do, it shows up but I lose access to my slave
hard drive on the primary. I get a disable (red icon) on
one hard drive in device mgr and a yellow exclam. on the
primary IDE controller. Any suggestions?

Lisa, does your bios setting give you an option for
selecting the type of IDE device(HDD,CD-ROM,ZIP) connected
to the secondary channels? You say it shows up,but can the
Zip read and write at this point?I would first make doubly
sure your jumper on the Zip is configured for "slave" and
check carefully that no pins are bent on both the
motherboard connector and the Zip.When you turn on the pc
as it's booting up,does it show the ALL the 4 IDE devices
in the right order?.If not,and you are sure your secondary
channel devices are jumpered correctly,i would remove each
of the secondary devices in Device Manager and then Remove
the Secondary IDE Controller also and reboot. The system
will reinstall the secondary IDE Controller. If things
still don't work properly, configure the Zip as a master
and just connect that on the secondary and see what
happens.Is that Zip a 100 or 250 MB unit.Trying another
cable is another option, although those cables usually
don't go bad unless handled constantly.I', curious about
this one,as that is the exact setup i have on one system.
