Internet Explorer experiencing random freezes
I've had this problem for several months on my old Windows 98 (NOT SE)
system. When I switched from dial-up to high speed DSL, I began to experience these completely random freezes while using Internet Explorer and any other browser (Netscape, Firefox, etc). The system would freeze hard (no mouse or keyboard feedback), and I would be forced to reboot from the tower. I have all critical updates from Windows Update with the latest IE6 SP1 installed. System has been defragmented and scanned, and I have no spyware or infections. I have removed any programs that could be interferring with the network (Antivirus, Firewall, and other network programs uninstalled). DSL line is DHCP with advertised speeds up 1500 down/128 up, and is hooked up through my D-Link DI-604 router. I have had this system running for a good 8 years without a single reformat, reinstall, or repair of Windows. System specs: AOpen AP5T Intel Pentium 233MHz MMX 64MB SDRAM S3 Trio64V+ 1MB PCI Soundblaster 16 PCI Quantum Fireball 6GB D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter |

Hi there,
Give this a go for testing purposes - do you have an unused network card? Try disabling it. Also, review this URL for further suggested causes of freezing: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive...3.htm#freezing -- __________________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://www.ie-vista.com http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Inetexplorer has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go he http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archi.../14/46971.aspx "HungryHom3r" wrote in message ...
