Default Lost video driver, I think

Hello All:
OK here goes: Went on the net to download an updated driver for my
modem, did so and installed it and it worked.
But, the next time I rebooted my computer, the screen came up with the
windows generic video picture, like the one you get when you load
windows safe mode.
I had to run my motherboard disk to load the video driver back on and
had to reinstall windows and finally got it working back to normal. Has
this ever happened to anyone out there? If so, why did this happen?

Am really confused???

Thnaks in advance

More likely than not, when you loaded the modem drivers they either
activated an IRQ for the modem that your display adapter was already using
or they overwrote a file the display adapter drivers needed. Since the
reinstall fixed things that would seem to make it a closed case no matter
which of the above actually caused the problem. :-)
