Installing new hard drive ?!!!
I installed a new hard drive on my computer and ive found
that the display settings have changed from the previous settings I had on my old hard drive and they are very basic. For example I can only have '16 colours' insted of 'True colour (32 bit) and the screen area can only be set to 640 by 480 pixels insted of 1024 by 768 pixels! This has resulted in not allowing me to install new software because of something to do with the monitor depth?! Is there any way I can have my old settings back with out changing back to my old hard drive? Please help!! Thank you. Katie |

Katie,
You need to provide just a little more information. For example did you add your new hard drive as a second drive or have you instead replaced your original drive with the new drive and reinstalled Win Me? If the latter your display problem is due to your not having installed the necessary video drivers for your graphics card and instead you are using the default VGA drivers. If you don't have a copy of the video drivers from your previous install the easiest way to proceed is to visit the video card manufacturer's web site and download the latest Win Me compatible drivers for your video card. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Katie wrote: I installed a new hard drive on my computer and ive found that the display settings have changed from the previous settings I had on my old hard drive and they are very basic. No I replaced it as a new drive as my old hard drive didnt have enough space and I was using windows 98. With the new hard drive i've installed win me on it. The only way I can use the internet is on my old drive the as on the new drive I can install the software! So if i need to download the latest Win Me compatible drivers for my video card on my old drive how can i install them on the new drive? I'm sorry but I fail to understand why using VGA mode is preventing you
accessing the net and downloading the necessary driver. It's not that long ago that VGA mode was the best that was available.but I guess I'm showing my age here. :-) Alternatively download to your old drive (how are you doing this, multi-booting or by physically swapping the drives?) and then copy the drivers to CDRW or USB pen drive or whatever media you usually use for archiving files and then load the file onto your new disk and install the drivers. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Katie wrote: Thanks...
