Default hosts file

I need to know the a-b-c to getting a hosts file working.

My windows directory is not named windows.

I have followed the web instructions. Internet Explorer still brings up a
file that i tried to put in there for 127.0.0.1. It is
"solitairecentral.com"

Any ideas?

jim
