Happy New Year
I see my name's being taken in vein again!
Happy New Year, one and all - even if a little belated. Heavy snow up here for most of the day - had to cancel a visit, as I wasn't sure of being able to get home again!. Seems to have stopped now, with 3 inches on the ground (it's on the way down to you now Joan - have fun in the am!), and the local council have reportedly run out of grit/salt.... My neighbour abandoned her car on the way home from work this evening, along, apparently, with half the town. Hopefully the grocery delivery tomorrow evening will still happen! And the firewood delivery Friday. And the coal delivery that _began_ with an as good as unspecified date but hopefully will arrive sometime this week! The bit I find amazing is they have it or are supposed to have it worst dahn Sarf! I can just see the fuel deliveries coming when the cold snap's over. At least I'm not a brass monkey. Small mercies. Yes, that's what I call a Happy New Year, a little behind! And I plan to lose the holiday excess elsewhere by end of Jan. Wherever she is. Happy New Year
Lordy, only 3 inches?? Try a foot or more. But I forget that the UK is not
used to snow. I guess it is like our first snowfall of the year.........no one knows quite how to drive in it. We had black ice and a lot of accidents the past few days. So I wisely stayed in. Today it was about minus 20C with the windchill. Bracing!! I actually did up my coat. (G) Happy New Year, furball...........Figgs "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... Happy New Year
We got it, just a small flurry in the morning then a couple of hours of blue
skies and sunshine before the heavens opened and we got covered. We had another flurry in the night but at the moment I'm looking out at the sunshine, although there are a few clouds about. The schools are closed around here but the bus service is still managing to run at the moment, just hope I get my grocery delivery tomorrow, just checked my oil tank and I'm OK g Anyway best wishes to you, even though you were hiding in my inbox for a while I saw it on the right day lol -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... Happy New Year
it's been a lovely day here - sunshine pretty much all day, even if still
cold (around zero C all day). getting to the pub was a lot of fun If I can get there at the right time of day I'll send some photos by email. One of the schools around here has been closed since yesterday lunchtime - and will be closed tomorrow because the heating's broke (someone forgot to feed the meter?) They only opened yesterday morning! I have enough supplies now to last me out the current snap - must remember to get more before we get another one! -- Noel Paton CrashFixPC Nil Carborundum Illegitemi www.crashfixpc.co.uk "Joan Archer" wrote in message ... Happy New Year
Well I got my groceries, and he was only about 10 minutes outside my
delivery slot but I don't think I'm going to bother trying to go and do a top up shop tomorrow I'm not going to risk there still being any ice around, I can't afford to fall g Johns got to go out our kitchen light has given up the ghost so he's got to go get a new fixture then my son-in-laws cousin will come and fit it for us, although we'll probably get a 5 ' one instead of the 6' that we have now, the tubes are easier to get and cheaper. It's not done bad though we had it fitted just before we moved in here nearly 17 years ago. It's been dry and sunny here all day but of course very cold and the forecast for tomorrow is the more of the same brrrrrrrrrrr -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... it's been a lovely day here - sunshine pretty much all day, even if still cold (around zero C all day). getting to the pub was a lot of fun If I can get there at the right time of day I'll send some photos by email. Lucky you! Enough to say it's white and very cold here. -- Mike Joan Archer wrote: Well I got my groceries, and he was only about 10 minutes outside my delivery slot but I don't think I'm going to bother trying to go and do a top up shop tomorrow I'm not going to risk there still being any ice around, I can't afford to fall g Johns got to go out our kitchen light has given up the ghost so he's got to go get a new fixture then my son-in-laws cousin will come and fit it for us, although we'll probably get a 5 ' one instead of the 6' that we have now, the tubes are easier to get and cheaper. Happy New Year
You folks have been getting a taste of our warmer weather, it seems.
Tomorrow will be about 18F here.......forget what that is in Cent. cuz I avoid it when at all possible. I can't "feel" how warm or cold it is in Centigrade. To stay warm.......layer your clothes. And Ron says.....get snow tires. They are absolutely required here. Lordy, remember tire/tyre chains?? Off for a chicken dinner at Swiss Chalet.........keep warm. "Mike M" wrote in message ... Happy New Year
Ah - the current temp here in Holywell according to my Vista Gadget is -12C
(10F) This is about 3C colder than it was when I woke up this morning How true this is is anyone's guess - all the thermometers in peoples' cars only registered -6 this am. -- Noel Paton CrashFixPC Nil Carborundum Illegitemi www.crashfixpc.co.uk "Heather" wrote in message ... Happy New Year
No point in tyre chains here since we're in a one in 50 year event or
something like that. Chains are a sensible investment if snow and ice is a regular feature of one's winters but that's not the case here with this winter seemingly being the worst since the 1960s. Temperatures in central London tonight are predicted to be -3 to -4C (25-26F) with down to -9C (16F) in surrounding towns but apparently it could get as low as -20C (-4F) in the countryside. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. Thankfully we have the Gulf stream since otherwise we'd be a lot colder here in London given that we are 8 degrees further north than Toronto. I hope you enjoyed your dinner. -- Mike Heather wrote: You folks have been getting a taste of our warmer weather, it seems.
