Re-installing 98 over 2000
Can anyone help me with the steps to reloading Windows 98 on computers that
have 2000 on them? And then you can help me stop the login screen from displaying at start up. |

You cannot load W98 over W2K. Do you want to dual boot the two systems or
do you want to dump W2K and just use W98? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Dijait" wrote in message news Can anyone help me with the steps to reloading Windows 98 on computers that have 2000 on them? I guess I need to dump it then. Will I lose all the data on the machine?
like student files, installed programs, etc.? I tell you what, my problem is that no one seems to know the password to three of our machines. We are not hooked up to a network, so 3 perfectly good machines can't be used. is there anyway to get break through the login. Of course all this took place because the login screen displayed and students type anything in. If there is no other way, I'll have do dump 2000 to install 98. You should ask in a Windows 2000 newsgroup. At the very least, there should
be a way to recover your data and re-install W2K. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Dijait" wrote in message ... I guess I need to dump it then. Yes you would lose all data. I agree with Jeff. Post to a W2K newsgroup
and maybe someone knows how to bypass the password (if it can even be done). -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Dijait" wrote in message ... To quote from a post I just read in 2k ng:
See the link below on a free program to download that can be used to create a bootable floppy or cdrom to reset your administrator password to logon with. First try to logon with the account name " administrator " and leave the password blank to see if that works. If it is, you want to be sure to give it a hard to guess password and write it down somewhere where you do not want other people to find if you do not want them to access the computer. The password reset utility requires a little knowledge of how a computer works though for most of the prompts you can use the default setting and hit enter until it asks you what you want to do and for what account. --- Steve http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ -- select "bootdisk" and be sure to read section on "how do I use" . I was able to solve my login problem with the program from the link that you
listed. I jumped for joy and shouted Hallelujah!!!! I was able to set the password for each machine to blank so that new students can just press enter to get in. Thanks. In that case a high-five for Steve... I was just the messenger. Glad to have
