How to delete printer drivers?
Hello,
I have an Epson Stylus Color 800 and haven't been able to print lately. I've tried the printer at my neighbor with my cable, and it worked. So it must be somethign wrong with my pc instead. Before testing it at my neighbor, the pc complained that the printer was offline. Now, it seemed to be able to communicate with the printer, but it at first reported that the printer was out of paper, and then some rubbish/gibberish was blurted out, instead of the test page that i was trying to print. So now I want to remove all the printer drivers and start afresh. I've previously also downloaded some other printer drivers for this same printer and I want to remove them as well. I can use the Epson uninstall program to remove the original Epson Stylus Color 800 driver, but I don't know how to remove the extra printer drivers that I have installed into my pc. Please also tell me what else I should do to get my printer working with my pc again. Thanks. Herbert |

Go to the Printers folder and delete the printers. The drivers files will still
remain on your system, but you can then reinstall the printer using whichever set of drivers you wish to use. If the new files have the same name as the old, they *should_be* overwritten automatically.. Sounds like you should also: 1. Be sure the BIOS is set to the proper LPT port configuration demanded by your printer, probably ECP or EPP or EPP/ECP or just Bi-Directional--depends on your BIOS as to what is offered. Check the printer's documentation. 2. Boot to Safe Mode and go into Device Manager. Remove the LPT port (if more than one, remove them all), and any other devices pertaining to your printer. Then reboot and let Windows reinstall the LPT port. Printer will probably have to be reinstalled manually, using the latest drivers files and according to their instructions. If you still have odd problems such as those you describe already, then I would suspect bad hardware at the motherboard level. Might be able to fix it using different resource settings for the LPT port. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP for Win9x "Herbert Chan" wrote in message ... I have already tried changing the LPT port at BIOS from ECP/EPP to normal,
then changing it back to ECP/EPP, deleting the LPT port under safe mode and letting win98se install the LPT port again. So now, what I haven't done is to install afresh new printer drivers. I've followed your instruction. I've now chosen IRQ5 for my printer and
it's ECP/EPP in the BIOS. The behavior now is: When I tried printing the test page, the spool manager first complained that the printer was out of paper. It then started printing. After printing out the windows 98 logo, it then dumped some gibberish out. Then the paper was blurted out and the printer loaded another paper, then something unrecognisable was printed on the paper, but very sparingly, and the paper was blurted out. It then loaded another, and another. I had to press the power button to turn off the printer to prevent it from keeping on printing something on the paper and hten blurted it out. When I tried printer like ABCDEFG from Word, the paper was advanced to a certain position, and it then did nothing, for a very long time (10min). I had to press the load paper button to get the paper out. And nothing was printed. At my neighbor's WinXP, only one single page was used as expected for the test page. So this is the behavior. (The printer is very low on black ink though. This shouldn't be causing all this problem, right?) I haven't uninstalled the IrDA adapter as I will need to connect to my mobile phone more often than to use my printer (I can always use the laser printer at work). Hope you can help me further. Thank you very much. Herbert "Herbert Chan" ¦b¶l¥ó ¤¤¼¶¼g... Sorry, I've reached my limits on this one. Hands-on detective work, a review of
the related Registry items might get me a bit further, but I'm at a loss to suggest any specific, additional remedy other than to suggest that yes, the low-ink level *might* be a problem. -- Gary S. My HP printer 'requires' that it be set on ECP only. Look in your Printer manual to see what your Epson printer requires. If you uninstalled ALL printers (drivers and their programs), deleted all Printers in Control Panel, rebooted into Safe Mode and deleted all Printers in Device Manager and rebooted and then deleted all your C:\Windows\Temp and then reread the proper sequence to install your problem Printer (manual) and followed them, then the ideas on fixing your problem are running low. If you remember what other Printers you had installed on the PC, perhaps reinstall them and then delete them. Perhaps go to the Epson website and download the latest drivers for your Printer and try installing them. Read the install instructions that usually accompany the newer drivers. Perhaps they will overinstall. When you are in Device Manager, does it show an IRQ or other conflict? |

I've just looked through my manual, and I couldn't find a place where it
mentioned what parallel port it needed. But I faintly remember I've read somewhere that in order to allow the printer status programme installed on the pc to get the status of the printer, bidirectional mode must be supported by the parallel port. Apart from this requirement, I cannot remember any specific requirement about the parallel port. My printer is Epson Stylus Color 800. So the parallel port is now an ECP printer port (LPT1) with (my own translation from Chinese): Input/Output Range: 0278-027F Input/Output Rang: 0678-067F (2 lines for the same item) IRQ: 05 Direct Memory Access: 03 Conflicting Device List: No conflict "Buffalo" ¦b¶l¥ó news:NNh6d.170122$3l3.129450@attbi_s03 ¤¤¼¶¼g...
