Browser not completing "connection"
Here's another IE5 problem (sigh, like the old joke goes, I got a
million of 'em!) If anyone has any ideas short of reinstall, upgrade, etc. The problem is that IE5 has stopped completing certain steps, namely: 1. It fails to complete the connection when I click on a link in an email message in OE5. Clicking on the link opens an IE browser window with a blank in the Address bar. And there it stops. I have to paste in the URL to complete the connection. The reason I think this failure is somehow rooted in Internet Explorer rather than Outlook Express is because of the second problem I am having: 2. IE fails to continue through and open the browser window when logging in at Yahoo. For example, I enter the log-in info for Yahoo mail. The browser window changes from log-in page to the next connect/redirect page with only a url in the Address bar and stops there. IE does send the log-in info because if I click on my yahoo mail bookmark again, my mailbox opens. Same thing happens when trying to log into a Yahoo Group. It logs me in, but will not go to the next browser page, i.e., the group's home page. I have to again click on the group bookmark to get that to open. I have one idea of where the problem "might" lie but don't know enough to pursue it. When I installed the Opera browser, it installed the Sun version of Java (supposedly a more secure version of java, by the way, than Microsoft's). My IE browser is the default browser, not Opera. But Sun java is being used. At one point, I tried playing around with the Java options in IE Internet Options, Advanced, to no avail. checking the IE Java options, unchecking Sun Java, etc. Opera completes the connections wtih no problem; it is IE that is faltering. Mmmm. I just looked at Internet Options again so I could be more specific and now I see only Sun Java options showing. Sun Java for applets, and nothing checked under Sun Java VM. Prevously, the Sun Java applet showed (don't remember about vm) but so did options for Microsoft java and Microsoft Java VM. Well, jeez. Whatta kettle of fish. I can uninstall Sun Java to see if that's where the problem is in the IE browser not completing connections, but I am not sure whether Microsoft java would automatically be restored in IE. I might just put myself completely out of business and be forced to start over from ground zero! Anyone had any experience with this? Any ideas on what I can/should try next? BArun |

1. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window doesn't even open: See
http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx 2. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window opens but it doesn't load: Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679 Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a side-effect. Check in at Windows Update. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) BArun wrote: Here's another IE5 problem (sigh, like the old joke goes, I got a million of 'em!)
