Display Partition Informtion
I got this computer off of a friend, It wouldn't boot up so i check fdisk and this is what i found.
Current fixed disk drive: 1 Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes System Usag C: 1 A Pri Dos Hard Drive 16 Fat12 % Total disk space is 7162 mbytes (1 Mbyte = 1048576 Bytes) Is this saying it turned the hard drive into an, A drive. If so is there anyway to fix it? Ive been reading up on fdisk not real good on it yet But can do some. Just don't know how to fixs this, problem. |

Status "A" means that this is the active partition - that is, the one used
to start the computer. That's normal. What's NOT normal is that your 7162mb drive says it is only 16mb in size and has a FAT12 format. Looks like the partition table on the drive is damaged. If you need to get information off the hard drive you should take it to an expert because at this point it's pretty much beyond the ability of a home user to repair. If not, you can use FDISK to delete the faulty partition, create a good one, then format it and reinstall Windows. -- Richard G. Zap or Wipe freeware will remove all partition information so you can start
over fresh with FDisk. Download he http://www.microstorage.com/Harddriv...20Life%20Guard Fdisk is pretty easy to use but it is not very versatile so that is why I suggest totally wiping the drive and starting over clean. I would also determine the brand of the hard drive, go to the maker's web site, download their diagnostic software and check the health of the drive. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Cody" wrote in message ...
