Default Windows will not let me download update

For the last few weeks I have been experiencing problem
with my Microsoft Windows 2000 program. I would appreciate
any assistance you could give me on this matter. When I go
to update for windows it will not allow me to update. It
tells me that my update was incomplete. It gave me some
suggestions to see if I could resolve the problem myself.
It told me that I might have clicked no when prompted to
accept the Trust certificate. It said when the update site
presented the security warning, I should click yes to
accept it. I have done so. It also said that my Internet
explorer security might be set too high. So I have set it
on medium low, and then later set it on low. I still was
not able to download my Microsoft Update. So I then went
back to Internet Explorer and clicked the default tab.
This didn't do any good either. It also told me that my
active scripting and the download and initialization of
ActiveX controls must be enabled.
I have printed out your resolution instructions sheet and
have gone thru the instructions for displaying hidden
files, deleting Temporary Internet files. I have also
followed the instructions for deleting files from the
Windows update folder. I feel pretty confident that I did
everything as I was instructed except for the last item,
which was to remove the windows update ActiveX controls.
It said to click start, then click search, and then click
for files or folders. It said to search for files named
Iuctl.dll and Iuengine.dll. It said if I found any files
in the C:\window\System32\Dllcache folder, delete them. It
also said if I found any other folder, other than
C:\windows\system32, to delete them also. Then it said
after I had deleted all other copies of these files, to
delete them from the C:\windows\system32 folder. I found
this to be very very confusing to me. I felt that this was
definitely not a people friendly section, and do not know
if I did this section correctly or not. Then it said to
go back to the windows update web site to install new
copies of the ActiveX controls. Well I did go back and it
still will not let me download my windows update. I would
appreciate any help you could give me on this matter.
Thank You D.L. My email address is

This newsgroup is for those using the Windows Millennium (Win Me)
operating system rather than those running Windows 2000 for which there
are a separate group of newsgroups offering support.

You give no details of which update you were trying to install. Once you
have established which operating system you are running may I suggest that
since your problem is with installing an update from the Windows Update
site that you post to the microsoft.public.windowsupdate newsgroup
including full details of the operating system you are using and the
update you are attempting to install and as much other information as you
can.
