CD ROM not accessible

Does it give this error no matter what disc you try in the drive?
Have you tried an audio CD in the drive....will it play?

Boot up with a startup floppy disk with CD-ROM support, note the drive letter it
assigns to the CD drive, and try doing a DIR reading on a CD from DOS. Post back
with the results.

If you can read a disc from the floppy boot, restart in Safe Mode, open Device
Manager, and remove ALL entries under the CDROM category, click OK all the way out,
and restart in normal mode to let Windows redetect the drive.

I get no probs in device manager, plus the only info on the drive is that
it's 54X, no model or make info, and the driver is installed off the Win98se
disc.
