Windows ME and Router
Trying to help a friend, I'm not familiar with Win ME.
She has a Linksys router, and was using it for a long time in her home (along with Comcast cable system) to access the net. She just moved, and when she hooked everything back up, she doesn't get the internet connection via the router. When she plugs directly into the cable modem, everything works fine. I know that for Win98, there's a utility (WINIPCFG or something like that) to reset the IP address that has worked for me in the past. Is there something like that for Windows ME? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! |

Winipcfg is also part of Win Me.
If DHCP is enabled on the router TCP/IP on the NIC used to connect Win Me to the router should be configured to obtain an IP address automatically. What IP address is currently allocated to the PC? What is the IP address of the router? Can the PC ping the router? -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP [2001-2005] Howard wrote: Trying to help a friend, I'm not familiar with Win ME. Thanks for the reply. I don't know the answers to these
questions, I'll have to go over to my friend's house and see what I can do. I'll try the WINIPCFG first, that seemed to work for me in the past. Thanks again. -----Original Message----- Winipcfg is also part of Win Me.
