Default IE Browser fails to appear

first of all I am able to get online with my ISP but when
trying to go to my home page or any other website my
browser fails to display the page.I continue to get the
cannot display page window.I have always been able to
solve this problem in times past but this time I am
stumped. On the status bar line while trying to retrieve
the site I get this message before the cannot display
page comes up (Downloading from
site:res//C:\\Windows\system\SHDOLCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm)
It appears to be a dns error within the windows system
host script but thats just a guess.when I go to winipcfg
(IP Configuration)I believe there should be a valaid IP
address listed but my system states for its IP
address "Media Disconnected" I have no idea what this is
refering to.there is also nothing listed under submask or
default gateway.there is nothing in the windows help
refering to this media disconneted listing.I have tried
restoring internet settings to default in internet
options with no change.I ran my adaware for possible
browser hijack but it found nothing.I even reinstalled
the windows ME setup.exe to see if it would fix any
corrupted or missing system files but still no
browser.Other than that my system is running fine but
this problem sure has me preplexed.. Please help Windows
Gurus...any ideas????

Warren,

Scan the system with AdAware, check for updates before you do, in
Safe Mode with " Show hidden files and folders " enabled :
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=6213

Advise you to download and install Spybot to also scan the system :
http://tomcoyote.com/SPYBOT/index1.php

Also, it would be wise to scan the system with Hijack This and post
the log to a forum that specializes in deciphering them :

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index....showf orum=18
Be sure to read the " Important Topics " at the top of the page
before posting the log.

http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30
Read " INSTRUCTIONS FOR POSTING HJT LOGS HERE " prior to posting the
log.

Hijack This

For advice specific to problems with secure sites, have a look at the first
link - for general advice, have a look at the second:
