Question for Mike
Mike, I was having a problem with system restore and you gave me some advice
conerning repairing the registry. You said "If this isn't the reason for your problem then try running SCANREG /FIX from a command prompt such as Start | Run". My question is when I type in scanreg/fix, a black box comes up saying Windows Registry Checker. What do I do then? If I hit any key on the keyboard, I get "MSDOS program has terminated, click the close button" ect ect. I can't seem to do anything else with it. |

First there should be a space between SCANREG and /FIX. Scanreg is
indeed the registry checker and /fix is the command to fix and repair certain errors. The black command window opens and scanreg runs. You should then see two further boxes probably overlaid one on the other. One is titled "Windows Registry Checker" with a pile of blue bricks in the top left corner and has no other text, just a blank progress bar. The second box, also titled "Windows Registry Checker" has a blue question mark in a white ellipse together with the text "Rebuilding the registry requires restarting Windows. You should close all open programs before continuing. Would you like to continue?" and two buttons, one labelled Yes and the other No. What do I do then? Close whatever applications you have running and press the Yes button. The first box will now say "Rebuilding Registry" and a blue progress bar move rapidly from left to right after which the system will reboot. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Peter wrote: Mike, I was having a problem with system restore and you gave me some advice conerning repairing the registry.
