JCORE.DLL: invalid page fault error
OS: Windows 98
Version: 5.0 Program: Juno Internet Platnium Error: "Juno has encountered a technical problem that makes it necessary to shut the program down...." and after going through the riggamarole, "JUNO caused an invalid page fault in module JCORE.DLL @ 016f:120b0bde" (You know the rest) User did not change any options, programs hardware options/software options, operating systems, etc. Just, all the sudden, he is getting this error and has no idea why (I can't make any logic of it either). Is this something like, "reinstall 5.0 and all the problems will be alleviated"? or should he look at another version that would still be compatible with Win98? I'm at a loss. and, thanks for your help. D |

JCORE.DLL: invalid page fault error
There *is* a Juno Support after all...I got this from their email auto-assist:
paste Thank you for requesting information from Juno's automated response library. Below you will find the documents you requested in your last E-mail. __________________________________________________ ________ In response to your inquiry regarding "Error: Juno caused an invalid page fault in module JCORE.DLL", the information below should help you. ---------------------------------------------------------- JCORE.DLL is a file that is crucial for Juno to function. You are seeing the above error message because this file is either corrupted or is missing. Following is the list of steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem: (A) Upgrade to the latest version of Juno (Juno 5.0) (B) Reinstall Juno (If you are already using Juno 5.0) ************************************************** ************* (A) Upgrade To The Latest Version Of Juno (Juno 4.0 or earlier): If you're using a version of Juno earlier than 5.0, you should upgrade to the latest version. To determine which version of Juno is installed on your computer, open Juno and select "About Juno" on the "Help" menu. The version of Juno currently installed on your computer is displayed at the top of the "About Juno" dialog box that appears. If you'd like to upgrade your Juno software, you can download the latest version for free by going to http://dl.www.juno.com/get/web. Or, to get a copy of the Juno CD-ROM in the mail, call us toll-free at 888-839-5866, 7 days a week from 7 A.M. to 12 midnight EST. NOTE: There is a one-time $10.00 processing fee for the CD-ROM that includes shipping and handling. Note: You can install Juno 5.0 over the previous versions of the Juno software without losing any of your saved user information (your e-mail messages and Address Book). However, as a precaution, we recommend that you save copies of your e-mail messages and Address Book before you install Juno 5.0. Backing Up Your E-Mail Folders And Address Book (in Juno 4.0 or earlier): 1. Make sure you exit Juno. 2. Find your USER folder (Each Juno account on your computer has a USER folder that stores the information for that account.): (a) On the taskbar, click on the "Start" button, select "Programs", select "Juno", and click on "Juno System Information". (b) In the text file that appears, scroll to the section labeled [Juno Users]. This section contains the name and location of the USER folders for each Juno account on your computer. (c) In this section, find the line of text that contains your user name. For example, the line could look like this: "yourusername=C:\Juno\USER0002". In this example, your USER folder name is "USER0002" and is located in the Juno folder on your computer. (d) Write the location of your USER folder (the text after the equal sign) on a piece of paper. So, for the above example, you would write "C:\Juno\USER0002". 3. Locate your USER folder on your computer. If you need to, refer to the location you previously wrote down. 4. Copy your USER folder to another location on your computer. For example, you can copy it to your desktop, another folder, or on to a disk. 5. If there is more than one Juno account on your computer, repeat this procedure for each account you want to back up. Right after you upgrade, check your Address Book and e-mail messages and folders to make sure that you haven't lost any information. In the unlikely event that you have, all you need to do is restore this information. Restoring Your E-Mail Folders And Address Book After Upgrading To Juno 5.0: If you find that you need to restore your account information, just follow this procedure. However, please note, if you've received new messages and/or added new Address Book entries and need to restore your account information from your saved USER folder, the information won't merge. The information in the USER folder you previously saved will completely replace any new messages or Address Book entries. So, if you need to, be sure to restore your account information immediately after the upgrade. Once you have 5.0 installed, you can use the new Juno Backup Wizard to easily back up, restore, or even move your e-mail messages, Address Book, user preferences and much more! To restore your account information: 1. Make sure you exit Juno. 2. Find your USER folder again: (a) On the taskbar, click on the "Start" button, select "Programs", select "Juno", and click on "Juno System Information". 3. Locate the USER folder you previously saved either on your computer on or a disk. 4. Compare your saved USER folder name to your USER folder name you just wrote down. 5. If both folders have the same name, just copy your saved USER folder back to the Juno installation folder. If they don't, change the saved USER folder name to the USER folder name you just wrote down. For example, if your saved USER folder name is USER0001 and your USER folder name is now USER0000, change the saved USER folder name to USER0000. 6. Once you change the saved USER folder name, copy it back to the Juno installation folder. 7. If there is more than one Juno account on your computer, repeat this procedure for each account you need to restore. ********************** (B) Reinstall Juno 5.0 Before uninstalling Juno, we recommend backing up your saved mail and Address Book. If you uninstall Juno without backing up these items, they will be deleted along with the Juno installation. To Back Up Your E-Mail Folders And Address Book In Juno 5.0: 1. Exit Juno. You cannot back up or restore any information when Juno is open. 2. On the taskbar, click on the "Start" button, select "Programs", select "Juno" and click on "Juno Backup Wizard" to start the Juno Backup Wizard. 3. In the "Welcome to the Juno Backup Wizard" window that appears, click on the "Back Up" button. 4. In the "Backup" screen, if more than one copy of Juno is installed on your computer, select the copy that contains the e-mail messages and folders you want to back up and click "Next". 5. Select the user name for the account that contains the information you want to back up and click "Next". 6. Check the box next to "E-mail messages and folders", "Address Book", and any other information that you want to back up and then click "Next". 7. Click the option for where you want to save the backup file and then click "Next" to create the backup file. Note the name of the backup file, where you saved it, what it contains, and click "Finish" to exit the wizard. It's important to remember the location of the Juno backup file because you must specify this location if you want to restore this information. To Uninstall Juno: 1. Exit Juno. 2. On the taskbar, click on the "Start" button, select "Settings", and then select "Control Panel". 3. In the "Control Panel" window that appears, double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. 4. In the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" dialog box on the "Install/Uninstall" tab, select "Juno" and then click on the "Add/Remove" button. 5. In the dialog box that appears, click "Yes". Juno is uninstalled. 6. Click "OK" to close the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" dialog box. 7. If you're prompted to restart your computer, click "Yes". Reinstall Juno 5.0: 1. Locate the file "junoinst.exe" on the disk. 2. Double-click on this file. 3. Follow the Installation Wizard's onscreen instructions. You will now need to "Import" your account: 1. When you get to the Juno Welcome screen (the screen where you select an account and enter a password), click on the "Import Account" tab. 2. Select your connection method and click "Next". 3. Fill out your Name and Address and click "Next". 4. On the "Import Account: E-mail and Password" screen, fill out the information for your Juno account and click on the "Import Account" tab. To Restore Your Account Information: To restore your User information on Juno, just run the Juno Backup Wizard again. But this time select "Restore" instead of "Back Up", and follow the instructions given below: 1. Choose the location of the User information that was just backed up, and then click "Next". 2. Select the copy of Juno in which you want to insert the backed up data, and click "Next". 3. Select the accounts into which you would want to insert the back up (to select multiple accounts hold down the "Ctrl" or "Shift" key while clicking with the mouse). 4. You can restore any/all of the following: (a) "E-mail messages and folders" (b) "Address Book" (c) "Preferences" (d) "Custom spell check dictionary" (e) "External E-mail settings" 5. If you don't want to restore the same information for all the accounts, uncheck the box next to "Back up the same data for each subsequent user". 6. Click "Next". 7. Once the restoration is complete, click "Finish". __________________________________________________ ________ -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Dobsons" wrote in message om... Pretty bad, alright, though they also say something about backing up stuff...
Maybe that's important? Dunno, just wanted to drop a slight non-sequiter-- I have a client in a backwater where 21600 on dial-up is top speed. Uses Earthlink, so I thought she might want to try Total Access in order to get the Earthlink Accelerator. OK, to get TA 2005, you download a stub, then *it* downloads 18 to 40 MB of files. Considering the quality and speed of the customer's machine, plus the frequency with which downloads of that size simply fail before they're finished, that's a few *days* to download! So, I figure I'll download it here on my DSL--there's got to be a stand-alone download, right? Wrong! Only other way to save download time is to request a CD be sent to you--with Total Access *2004*. Then install it, then use an Update button to get it up to v.2005! Can't wait to see how big a download that one is. It will be smaller, for sure, but even a couple of MB on that system takes 20 to 30 minutes. Time that I can't in good consciousness charge for... Guess I'll take a book and a good cigar with me, sigh. Client says she's been solicited to subscribe to WildBlue Satellite Broadband (two-way satellite.) I don't recommend any version of Total Access myself, unless you are fond of errors.
As for TA 2005, you might want to look at some feedback he http://www.broadbandreports.com/foru...6797~mode=flat Also see he Slow Browsing with EarthLink Accelerator in TotalAccess 2005 / Delete the Temporary Files: http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/ps...a_2004/EarthLi nk_Accelerator/9759.psc.html (this long link will wrap...copy/paste into the address bar) I dunno anything at all about WildBlue....sorry I can't help there. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Gary S.
