Not all CDs have an autorun. What are the instructions from the
manufacturer for using this CD? If you want to run the installation program despite the warning from Norton (which could be a false alarm) then you may need to look for the correct program to execute, such as SETUP or INSTAL. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Kemm556" wrote in message ... I did not really say that the file was being deleted from a CD, but I am not sure. I assume it is from the hard drive. I am going to try and explain this to you one more time. I uninstalled my Canon scanner yesterday because I was having some problems with it. When the uninstall was finished I placed the Canon install CD in the CD-Rom drive and and instead of starting the install a box popped up from Norton Anti-Virus stating that I had a virus in the file D:\autorun.exe. It stated that it could not be repaired or quarentined. I had the choice of deleting the infected file or running it anyway. I chose to delete it. Apparently I didn't delete it after all because I just inserted the Canon disk in again and I received the same Norton Virus message. I tried deleting it, but it would not let me delete it. It said: Norton Anti-Virus was unable to delete this file. The disk it is on maybe write protected. So, is it on my Canon disk or on the hard drive???? I don't have a clue as to how a virus would have gotten on my installation disk. I have not used this disk in 5 years. The virus that Norton says it is infected with is C95.CIH.damaged. I put in another CD to be installed and the installation process began without a problem. So, I don't know and at this point it doesn't really matter. I will just buy another scanner and not worry about it. I just don't know what happened. Now about the error message. When I got the error messages before I had gone to startrun and then typed in D:\autorun.exe and got the message. Then I typed in D:\autorun.inf and got the exact error message. That message is posted in one of my previous posts. Also, I went to startfindfiles and folders and I put in the above files, (of course not together) and it came up that no files or folders were found. I am sorry that I have not made myself clear to you, but I don't know how else to explain it. And also, I don't know how put a file in notepad to view it. Considering I can't find the file when searching in files and folders I don't think it is there. Thanks, Kemm |
