Default Why does this happen?

I have 2 OS's, win98se and xp home, on one hd, in different partitions.
Why is it when i boot up directly into XP, I get a reminder that my C
drive is short of space. That is where my win98 is installed. I'm not
using it except for a tv tuner that does not work in XP. I do not use it
for anything else. Is there a way to stop the reminder?

How much free space do you have on C: and do you have a partitioning program
that you could use to increase the partition size of C:?

In Windows XP open Control Panel - System - System Restore.

If it shows that it is monitoring drive C: (the Windows 98 drive) then
select it and click on the Settings button.

In the settings Window make sure that it is drive C: (the Windows 98
drive) and then click on the checkbox for "turn off System Restore on
this drive" to select it. Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit.

That should free up some additional space on drive C: and get rid of
the warning message for you.

Good luck

Thank you, I did as you suggested, but was sort of squeamish in
following through because of the following warning I recieved, if I
choose to do check that box:: "If you continue you will not be able to
track or undo harmful damages to this drive." I don't know exactly what
that means. BTW, that other reminder keeps popping up more than a few
times at one sitting.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300044/EN-US/

"When a given hard disk has less than 80 MB of remaining free disk space, System Restore purges the data store down to 75 percent of its size, or purges at least one restore point (this is the case if the data store is already below 75 percent). System Restore does not stop restore point creation. It continues to create idle time check points as time demands, and keeps purging on a first in, first out (FIFO) basis, as space demands.

When a disk has less than 50 MB of remaining free disk space, System Restore purges the data store completely and suspends System Restore on all drives (consistent freeze) until the minimum disk space (200 MB) is created again. Then, System Restore restarts monitoring."

I se what your saying, but my C drive has win98se and very rarely used,
although it does share the same disk that XP is on, but different
partitions. I thought that one cannot use restore points on win98, only
XP. Now, My computer shows that the C drive has 32MB of free space, but
my XP drive which is on my E partition, shows 16gb of free space.
Shouldn't that be adequate for that one hd?
