"START button, Find, F/F, Explorer.exe"

Do you have an Explorer.exe in C:\, the root directory. (Naturally, it
is OK to have one in C:\Windows.) Better run a virus scan, if one was
found in the root directory.

After that... "START, Run, MSInfo32, Tools tab, IE Repair Tool".
E & IE are closely related. However, I'm not sure it does all
that much, and some do report it crashes on their machine, apparently in
an orderly manner. It does produce a rather long "Fix IE Log.txt" in
C:\Windows. If it crashes, a reinstall of IE is indicated.

When you get an "illegal operation" error message, click the "Details" button, and
post back with the exact details word for word, up to but not including the memory
registers.
