Default Switching between Modems

When you have two dial-up modems installed on a computer, say one internal
and one external, you can switch between them by going into Modems in the
Control Panel and selecting the modem. Apart from physically manipulating
the connection path, how do you do this when two modems are installed and
one of them is DSL?

1. How do you disable the modem through Windows?
2. Where is "Connect using Local Area Network". I can't find it.

OK, I get it. But it's definitely a homebrew solution with additional
detritus to slog through. I couldn't find any evidence that the OS has a
response for this designed into the system. But thanks for pointing me in
the quasi-right direction.
