compatibility issue
Background: I have a piece of software that is supposed to unlock a GSM
phone from the phone company it was originally used with. The original company is in the UK; I am in the US, so third party unlocking software is needed to get the phone free to link to a new network. This was not a free phone and is useful because it is a tri-band unit usable in most countries. Problem: The program, called client.exe will not open properly. It reports Error Imported 0x02F2 API not found I reported the problem to the vendor, who responded oddly: "The software is compatible, although it is better to use a Win XP computer. We have had some customers experiencing trouble opening the file, usually the problem is solved when trying it on a different computer. If you still can't open the file with another computer, please email us." Can anyone clarify what the problem is? Running around trying random computers does not seem to be a reasonable solution. Is this software really not ME compatible? I can eventually get access to an XP machine but I would really like to know what the compatibility issue is and whether the vendor should be chastised for his advertised claims of "Windows compatible." |

Thanks. But I am not sure whether the program is inherently
incompatible with ME or, as you suggest, there is may be some update to, or new DLL that could be added that would fix the problem. I have no idea how to find the "missing link." Desperate Google and Microsoft searches for 0x02F2 have produced nothing. To the extent Microsoft has issued patches for ME, my system is up to date. It would seem the vendor has no idea what the problem might be. Any search suggestions? "Mike M" wrote in message ... The application is incompatible with Win Me just as you yourself admit in the subject to this thread. The clue being a) the comment by the vendor that it is better run on XP and b) the error message itself "API not found". In other words your Win Me system does not contain the required version of a DLL (dynamic link library) that contains the required API (Application Program Interface). I would suggest you use a PC running XP as the vendor at least says that the program will run on such a system. Alternatively establish which DLL file is either missing or at fault and upgrade your system, if possible, to the required version. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ingber wrote: Background: I have a piece of software that is supposed to unlock a GSM phone from the phone company it was originally used with. I'm sorry but there is no point in looking on Google or else where for
0x02f2 which is simply a hex address and would be a waste of time on your part. Instead you need to establish from the program vendor the DLLs and their versions on which the application relies. Better though would be to do as both they and I suggest and that is to use XP. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ingber wrote: Thanks. It would help if you gave us the name of the program, and the vendor!

I may have to use an XP machine, but the story of the vendor is
peculiar. JHongs Inc sells his services via EBay. The program he sends is named as below, "client.exe," but it is in a zipfile called multiserver.zip. I believe this is a clue to the origins of the software. The error message in full adds "Mail us an error screenshot at ." Since I did not purchase the software from movitel I tried to deal directly with JHongs, with the result below. Movitel is a Spanish language website that itself sells remote unlocking services using the name multiserver among others. I found a query (in English)on one of their forums about buying software called "total multiserver" from a third party. The software gave him an error message as well (different). The host of the forum conspicuously did not respond to the query. He does respond to his own customers. Following this trail would seem hopeless. "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... All I can say is that you possibly got what you deserved, since the program
would seem to have been ripped off. The program itself is necessary but not sufficient to do anything. It
connects to a server to which one logs on using an id and password from the vendor. Then the unlocking codes are passed to the telephone connected to the computer via a service cable. Yes it is for a SonyEricsson phone. "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... All I can say is that you possibly got what you deserved, since the program would seem to have been ripped off. I don't know which version you are trying to use. I've downloaded
multiserver.zip from the movitel site and it contained TotalMultiserver v1.45.exe. I've tried running this on Win Me both with IE5.5 SP2 and IE6 SP1 and in both cases crashed the system (BSOD). On XP the application opened as in the screenshots on the movitel site. Note though that I was running Win Me on what is called a "virtual PC" rather than on a "real" PC. Again I feel that you should try using a PC running XP rather than Win Me to run this program. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ingber wrote: I may have to use an XP machine, but the story of the vendor is peculiar. I solved the problem with the program running on ME. Instructions were
to disable the firewall, which I had done. It was not clear there was any connection to the error message. However, when I completely prevented the firewall and antivirus from loading on startup, the program started normally. The software then updated itself with v1.45 and the unlock proceeded smoothly. I do not understand the problem, but the phone now works on another network. Thanks to all for your efforts. "Mike M" wrote in message ... I don't know which version you are trying to use.
