Default Not enough Virtual memory

I have a problem with my pc's virtual memory. When I try
and use programs eg: MS Word, it just does not open saying
there's not enough memory. Another eg: I try editing a
small jpg file and it says there is not enough virtual
memory to perform this task eg: rotating photo. I went
into the virtual memory settings and it was set to
Automatic. I tried changing this to the min and max
settings and this didn't help either. The hard drive is
20GB with 15GB free space on it. I'm baffled as to why
this is occurring. Any help is appreciated.

Try this, locate the file normal.dot and rename it Oldnormal.dot.
That may be the only thing wrong with Word.

Or you may have a virus in your computer. Start here.
Look for you exact error message.

Virtual Memory is how Win98 names the
swap file on disk (filename WIN386.SWP).
You reach this via / Settings / Control Panel / System / Performance
and select the button marked Virtual Memory.
If in doubt, select Option 1 = Let Windows handle it.
You ought not to have any value set for max file size.

If none of those tips work, try running ScanDisk.

It may fix errors on the hard drive.
