Curt - still 2 beeps Memtest86 run it?
Hi Curt,
Tues night here, I downloaded the memtest86 to a floppy and tried to run it. I can't just put it in, 'cuz it just does 2-beeps. So I tried checking out the Setup (and here the memory supposedly checked out OK, but then there was a message after all the initial testing: "ERROR - Resource conflict - PCI Network Controller - Bus: 00, Device 11, Function:00"). Can you help me with this info? Anyway, I tried a bootup disk, and tried to get the floppy to run the memtest, but I can't. How do I run it??? Help!! -----Original Message----- Hi Barb, It does sound as though it may be bad RAM. Download and run either of these (or both). They are free: Free memory testers: http://www.memtest86.com/ and DocMemory from: http://www.simmtester.com/ You may want to run them overnight. These aren't 100% accurate, but a good place to start. I've posted previously with this, but I'm working on a friend's computer (messed up w/ malware & other problems). Had to reinstall OS, also cleaned it, then on restart had 2 beeps. Posted reply said I might have unseated the RAM or video card. I checked them and managed to fix problem. Trying to work on software/Internet issues, did a restart and - 2 beeps again! Reseating RAM, cards, etc.; now I sometimes get single beep (but it freezes at Windows screen) or double beep (where it doesn't get past the Dell screen). Please help! Is it possible for a virus to interfere with the POST test?? Any solutions out there?? |

Curt - still 2 beeps Memtest86 run it?
Sorry Curt for butting in...
Barb, Last time I had two beeps on a PC. Was at a new install of OS also. It was caused by the "Fast Ethernet Adaptor" being enabled in bios. So now when I do a reinstall of OS after a format. I go into bios and disable everything I can find that refers to ports I will not use for an install. Like the ethernet adaptor,USB ports,2nd floppy, seek for other drives. Be sure to save at exit of bios. Oh...make sure MB is Plug and Play Aware. Once you get a solid OS installed. You can go back to bios and re-enable these. I prefer one at a time. With a exit and save on each. That way if the system starts with errors you can go back and dissable the last,re-enabled, feature. I guess when I did the new install included me downloading the MB drivers from it's CD. With everything on? The CD downloaded everything the system saw even if it was not compatable with the OS. So if you turn them off it will only download only what the system sees. -----Original Message----- Hi Curt, Tues night here, I downloaded the memtest86 to a floppy and tried to run it.
