Please check and re-post with the exact file name you downloaded....I find no
reference to "hpCS4299 9x.zip" or to "hpCS4299 _9x.zip" Usually, you unzip the zipped file or files, using an app like WinZip (www.winzip.com), to a folder such as My Documents or the desktop. If there is only a setup.exe file, run it. If there are numerous files unzipped, look for and read the readme file for directions. H-P usually has installation instructions on the web pages where you download a driver file. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Rodney" wrote in message ... How do I install a sound driver?
G'day Glee,
I recieved the driver from a download site at http://www.driverguide.com/join.htm the file was (exactly) hp_cs4299_9x.zip The uploaders instructions were a bit thin he ripped them from an XP disk I guess. Next thing. Red Face dept I guess I must have done something correct the sound is now working, after I found I had plugged the speakers into the wrong jack (..........groan) The speaker jack was orange, as was the female in the back of the box, but I noted it was the microphone receptacle. I plugged it into an in/out female and it seems to be OK Anyhows, the sound is working albeit the volume is fairly limited even at max volume. Thanks for responding, I appreciate that. -- (Remove gum to reply) "glee" wrote in message ... | Please check and re-post with the exact file name you downloaded....I find no | reference to "hpCS4299 9x.zip" or to "hpCS4299 _9x.zip" | | Usually, you unzip the zipped file or files, using an app like WinZip | (www.winzip.com), to a folder such as My Documents or the desktop. How do I install a sound driver?
It looks as if the driver is enclosed in a ZIP file.
You need to use WinZip from http://www.winzip.com/ to open the file and then extract the contents to a folder with the Extract button, or run the driver file's instal .exe file from within WinZip. You can use WinZip on a trial basis, but there are many free alternatives. Go he http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/Links.htm#zip Wait for the browser to go directly to the links, which might take a while because they're right at the end of the links' list, which is long. How do I install a sound driver?
Been there, done that ;-)
You can't always rely on the colors of the connectors, I found out the hard way. The installation instructions are here, I believe: http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/142/142034.htm Glad it's working....perhaps they are not the optimum drivers for that system. If you don't like the quality you can keep looking for better drivers, but you may not find anything. You should be able to install a sound card, if you can find how to disable the onboard sound (usually a setting in BIOS setup). -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Rodney" wrote in message ... How do I install a sound driver?
Thanks Eric,
Yes, I am au fait with winzip. The file quoted did not have an install exe hence my question. I see now I have to install via "add new hardware" the tricky bit is knowing exactly what drivers to search for when replacing drivers in a purpose built machine with integrated sound/graphics in the motherboard. I'll limp onwards, because I have got myself into this mess never again will I touch a brand name computer. Clones are for me. I'll check today if the MB has slots for sound/graphics and if so will replace with new boards and be done with it. How do I install a sound driver?
Okee Dokey,
The graphics yesterday turned out poor when son tried to play Warcraft 3, so I'll open the box and see if there are slots for sound/graphics and install new boards. Now the monitor is beginning to flicker. (Boy! How do I install a sound driver?
Check the BIOS settings carefully, and read any documentation you may have, to
determine how to disable onboard sound and/or video, before installing cards. You may find info at the H-P support web site, if you know the model of the computer. Good luck.... -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Rodney" wrote in message ...
