Default Hp Pavilion 8705 Windows Me

I started the Recovery Restore Program on my HP Pavilion 8705 and the process
stopped part way through. Looks like the disc is damaged and now I cannot
figure out how to proceed from here. HP Support was not very helpful. I
have a reboot floppy but don't know what the next steps would be, someone
suggested changing BIOS but I don't know specifics. Anyone have any similar
experiences. I also have a back-up CD. Thanks

You think the disc is damaged because the recovery stops or because you see
scratches on the disc? If you see scratches, you can get them
professionally buffed off at a Hollywood Video or a BlockBuster. The
machine they use at HV looks like a paint mixer, it is so rugged. For me
they buffed a DVD I bought so there was no charge but I think you should
expect them to charge for the service. Ask first. Good luck.

Thanks very much, I really think the problem is the scratched disc - I'll
give it a try at Blockbuster.
