Default Can't see CD-Roms

Last night I downloaded the Windows 98 updates and
installed them this morning. Now I can't see my CD-rom
drives. The computer acts like they aren't there. I
tried detecting plug and play devices, but to no avail.
Does anybody have a fix for this problem?

1. Do you have Tweak UI installed? If so, go to My Computer tab and put
marks in all drives.

2. Check for a lastdrive statement in the config.sys file and if it exists,
make sure it reads: lastdrive=z

3. Run regedit.exe and open it to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup

In the right pane, look for a last drive statement and if it is present,
make sure it reads "Z"

4. Control panel, system, performance tab: is there any comment about
MSDos compatibility mode?

Do you have Tweak UI installed? If not, then disregard. If you do, look at
the My Computer tab.

Have you checked control panel, system, device manager to see if there are
any problems indicated? Does the drive show up in the BIOS?
