Installing Windows 98 SE
I recently purchased a second hand laptop (an IBM
ThinkPad 380ED) and Windows was completely messed up. It would not let me open Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player. I ran Active@KillDisk to completely wipe out everything on my hard drive. Now that I have done this, it won't let me reinstall Windows. How do I do this?! I really miss my laptop!!! Please e-mail me with your response!! Thank you!! |

Installing Windows 98 SE
E-mail support not available - sorry.
What procedure are you using when you re-install Windows, what point of the process are you getting to when you run into trouble, and what exactly happens when the installation 'won't let' you continue? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Kathy" wrote in message ... Installing Windows 98 SE
Try starting the computer with a boot floppy.
Then run "setup.exe" from the Win98 directory of the Windows 98 CD. http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Ben "Kathy" wrote in message = ... Installing Windows 98 SE
I boot the computer with a boot disk with cd rom
accessibility. With the Windows 98 SE installation disk in the cd rom drive I type e:\setup. It then tells me that it was a bad or illegal prompt and won't let me do anything else. I have tried this several times and it just doesn't seem to work. -----Original Message----- E-mail support not available - sorry. Installing Windows 98 SE
Firstly, check that E: really is the CD-ROM drive. Do
E: DIR and make sure the listing you get is the correct listing for the root folder of the Windows 98 SE installation CD. The drive letter used for the CD should be displayed on screen during the boot process - it might not be E. If there is some uncertainty, or if you can't see this information, get a utility for creating a new bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com - this one will put the CD-ROM drive at R so there's no doubt. If the listing you get is correct for the CD, then look for SETUP.EXE. If it isn't there you might not be using the proper CD, or you might find setup in a sub-folder. For instance, if it's in \WIN98 the your command needs to be E:\Win98\Setup -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Kathy" wrote in message ... I boot the computer with a boot disk with cd rom accessibility.
