Windows 98 Fatal exception error

I have a PC running Windows98 which displays the following
error message every time I access Internet Explorer:

A Fatal Exception 06 Has occurred at 04CF:00000012

Any ideas?

It might be spyware (see
http://www.microsoft.com/security/articles/spyware.asp ).

First try to repair IE:
1) Click on Start Settings Control Panel
2) Click on Add/Remove Programs
3) Click on the entry for "Microsoft Internet Explorer..." to
highlight it, and then click on Add/Remove.
4) Click on "Repair Internet Explorer" and then click Ok
5) Click Yes to the message that pops up
6) When the repair is complete, reboot your computer and try again

If that doesn't work you can try to revert to the previous version. Go
through the same steps as above except select "Restore the previous
windows configuration" instead of "Repair Internet Explorer".

If that doesn't work you can remove Internet Explorer completely then
reinstall it using http://webpath.us/help/remove-ie.html
I had a similar problem and my ISP recommended it. The CD can also be
used to install another more secure browser instead of Internet
Explorer if you wish. I used it to install Firefox and my computer is
a lot faster and more secure without Internet Explorer on it.
