Help reinstalling Win98, please
PROBLEM #1 Though laptop's Win98se would boot up successfully,
it would first display a couple of messages regarding corrupted files. SO --- used startup floppy to fdisk and format. BIG PROBLEM #2 But now can't reinstall W98. On each bootup, after choosing "Start computer with CRROM support" ... these are received: "diagnostic tool successfully loaded to drive D." "Device driver not found MSC001" "No valid CDROM device drivers selected" And, of course, when the optical drive is swapped in to replace the floppy drive it is not recognized. NOTE: Computer is a Dell CP233...the floppy drive being used (also the swappable CD drive) were tested on another Dell laptop and they work fine. How can I get the device driver loaded so that W98 can be reinstalled? |

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and create a Windows
95b boot floppy. This uses DOS 7.0, which is sufficient for Windows=20 98 setup. Start the laptop with the boot floppy, type=20 "copy /y a:\*.* c:\", then "sys c:". Shut down, remove the floppy drive, install the CD drive and restart. Please note that the CD drive will probably be assigned drive letter "R:". Ben "Etaoin" wrote in message = ... Your Dell W98 CD should be self booting so you can go into setup (the BIOS)
by pressing the key indicated on the startup screen, finding the boot section and making sure the CDRom is the first boot device. Reboot with the CD in the drive. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Etaoin" wrote in message ...
