How do you setup Static IP address for Win98SE PC ?
I change the IP address to a static under TCP/IP settings, and set default
gateway at 192.168.0.1, but I still can't connect to Internet. |

We need to know how you connect (dial-up, cable, wireless) and with what hardware and software. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

I don't know much about it, having only had BB for about 6 months, but YOU don't assign IP addresses, your ISP does. So the field should be left blank. The gateway - at least on my machine - is also blank. Also, many ISP's do not assign static addresses unless requested to do so and some charge extra. I get a different address every time I turn on my router. Which, unless you have a business or website, is better and safer. -- "Who knows what the OP is talking about?" (about thanatoid) |

How do you setup Static IP address for Win98SE PC ?
Sorry about that.
I'm trying to set my local IP address on my Win98PC. It's located on a LAN behind a router which is connected to the ISP through DSL high speed modem. I don't like DHCP running on existing PC's because the router occassionally changes IP addresses. I want to keep all my local computer IP addresses on the LAN fixed. The Win98PC is cable connected to the router. I found the TCP/IP configuration page for the Ethernet adapter but I'm confused as to what tabs have to be filled out. As I said, I made the IP address static 192.168.0.xxx, Assiged the default gateway as 192.168.0.1 (router IP). Do I have to fill out the DNS Server tab as well, and if so what info is required ?
