Could you please tell me if it means buying a whole new
CD or wether a can get a replacement.

If you have someone who can make you a copy, you can use that and your
current product key. This is perfectly legitimate.

Burning a copy is the best option, especially if it is an OEM CD (came with
computer) as MS can only issue replacements for retail versions of W98.
