Am I the only one who DOESN'T seem to have constant
problems with Windows ME and am happy with it?

No. As a matter of fact I am so pleased with WinMe I am afraid to
try to upgrade to XP for fear it will be more trouble and I'll
regret it. The only troubles I have had were created by me and/or
some software or other.

I'm using it with no problems, on my second system. You are not alone.

If there are problems, they are not with Windows ME, they are attributable
to the operator, Karla.
You probably have plenty of company.

Harry.

FWIW, no problems here. Any difficulties are (almost) always of my own
making.

I've had problems with the odd virus and the occasional trojan and even
a hardware problem but WinME does seem ok to me.
Regards Mike.

Hi Karla. WinME runs very reliably and smoothly for me, ..but only after
I heeded the relevant tips and tweeks from the folks at www.annoyances.org.
The 1st two years after I bought my PC (1gHZ, 256k ram, 40gig) in 1999, I
had a few intermittent problems. But all has been well for the last 3
years. I have avoided installing IE6 and WMP 9 and DirectX 9 for my PC.
IE5.5 SP2, OE5.5, WMP8 work just fine.

I'm OK with it now.
Computer Repair Shoppe says one third of manufacture's packaged computers are tempermental with motherboard, drives, memory chips etcetera. They want to aleaviate their dealings with by selling a computer that they build themselves from various sources.

Have used FDisk to make partions of Windows system C: , D:Temps for environmental settings, pagefile, internet temporary files, EATA for My Documents, My Downloads, script file backups
Then when operating system needs restore or formatting, it is only drive C:

WME is generally OK if I don't mess with it. Installing and uninstalling a
lot of software seems to cause it to fail. It simply does not have the
safeguards built into W2K.

I have a dual boot system with W2K, and W2K is clearly the more reliable.
But both are fine. If WME does fail, I still have W2K to play with until I
reinstall WME.

I often use the WME system because it boots so quickly. W2K takes a week.
And of course I use WME for legacy software that can't run in W2K even in
compatibility mode.

I like both, and would not want to be without either.

I was just curious. I have NEVER had any major problems
with WME. I got this cookie cutter HP computer 3 years
ago. I didn't have any problems when I first started
operating and I still don't have any. The only time I had
a problem was when I tried to install the updated driver
for my modem. It didn't work right so I did a system
restore and found out from the company that a lot of
people were having problems with the updated driver and to
just stay with the one I have unless it started giving me
problems.

I guess I got a really stable version of WME. I run
ScanDisk and Defrag every month and every two months I do
a thorough, deep scan with ScanDisk. I also keep the
history folder limited to 2 days and the Temp and Temp IE
folders I empty at the end of every week. I have the
computer set to block third-party cookies and to prompt me
before accepting first-party cookies. I also run AdAware
and SpyBot every Saturday and I keep my firewall updated
and running at all times along with my AV program.

I think I'm actually pretty lucky that I haven't had any
problems.

(slightly off topic - anyone know how to get a crotchety
old man to stop downloading every program he sees?)
