How to fix Usenet access?

I use Xnews and Tin (on Linux), but here is a good page for links to others: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Softwa...Clients/Usenet From this page: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Usenet/ You can also find other web services and free News Servers. -- __ __ #_ |\| | _# |

That still doesn't make it a newsreader, although many products combine email and NNTP clients. I'm know very little about Opera myself. I use Firefox mostly, Chrome a bit and IE just about not at all. Pegasus for mail and Agent for news. -- Tim Slattery |

How to fix Usenet access?

news.aioe.org no login needed But there are restrictions on what you can do. See their web page, www.aioe.org. Looks like most people should be able to live with the restrictions, but... Eternal-september is also free, and has fewer restrictions. But you do need to register. I'm amazed that either exists, to tell the truth. Somebody out there is putting time and money into keeping these things going, and getting nothing in return. THANK YOU! -- Tim Slattery |

How to fix Usenet access?
Why are you not replying to my posts, Tim?
I've asked you several times why you recommend Maternal September over AIOE. ============ Tim Slattery wrote: news.aioe.org no login needed But there are restrictions on what you can do. As you mention, most people never encounter those restrictions. I certainly never have. The limit of 3-groups in a cross-post is perhaps the only restriction that is likely to be encountered, and rarely is it necessary to post to more than 3 groups. Eternal-september is also free, and has fewer restrictions. But you do need to register. Again, your focus on the restrictions at AIOE are misplaced. |

Robert Macy wrote: google did it again! I was very happy with google acces to Usenet, Explain again why you don't (didn't) access usenet through a normal (and free) server? Using Opera 9.64 on Win98 [and very happy except for this tiny disadvantage, so don't tell me to change to Some other browser. You should not be using a browser (any browser) to experience usenet. Since I can't read a single posting on ANY Usenet group, I now rely upon Eternal September Why didn't you choose AIOE? No registration (user-name/password garbage). However, I can't post through Eternal September. What are you using (what software) to connect to Maternal September? What-ever it is, change your server setting to nntp.aioe.org. tried again. 16th time !!! |

In the newsgroup server properties, make sure you have the following options set: Security: Not Encrypted (or - no encryption, no SSL) Username/Password: Do not ask for username/password or select "none" Port: 119 What software are you using (what usenet client software)? I suggest you use one of the old Netscape Communicator email/usenet clients (4.78 or 4.79) and ONLY use it for usenet (not e-mail). Try this: ftp://ftp.thuntek.net/pub/pc/cc32d478.exe or this: ftp://ftp.paco.net/pub/windows/inter...h/cc32d479.exe This is the 4'th or 5'th time you've raised the issue of having problems with usenet / google, and I've recommended that you use a real news-reader and stop using google groups. Those other times we November 1,2 / 2009 July 22 / 2010 March 4 / 2012 Now it's happening again, July 22, 2013. |

Sadly I don't remember how I did it. Opera keeps wanting to reply using eternal-september, not aioe.org gut looks like works, ...after a fashion somehow. |

Sounds like an email error, but without seeing the exact text I can only guess. I don't know anything about Opera, but I found a web page that talks about how to use Opera for usenet: http://my.opera.com/wpost/blog/opera-usenet -- Tim Slattery |
