Default Windows volume control

I don't have anything sophisticated in the way of sound cards, speakers, etc.
But when I'm using Media Player and I turn up the volume on the Volume
Control to get sufficent sound from the media file, all of the "sounds" on
my computer are SUPER loud. I've tried all combinations of volume on the
actual Media Player, my speakers, and the various levers on the Volume
Control Panel. It seems whatever makes the volume on the media file
sufficiently loud also makes all of the sounds generated on the computer also
very loud. I know I can turn off the sounds for the computer but I just
wanted to know if the Media Player volume and other volume controls can be
seperated. Thanks in advance

Tim,
In the case of your computer being "stock" especially, all the sounds go
thru the same
pre-amp and amp... Not much you can do about it.
