cannot create restore point
There are no restore points that I can roll back to. I have looked =
through all the ME Help files to find out how to create a restore point, = and followed all the suggestions. I have tried disabling System Restore, = rebooting, then re-enabling SR, rebooting, and I still get the same = message when I try to create a restore point: "cannot create restore = point, reboot computer, then try again." The slider in Performance - = File System is set at 412, which should be more than enough, shouldn't = it? If this question has been answered already in this NG, I apologize = -- I'm new to these groups, and do not know how to search the archives. = Thanks in advance, if you can help. Peter |

Have you tried this?

Alan/Peter
the '290700 bug' doesn't prevent the creation of Restore points - merely renders those that are present un-restorable! This problem, OTOH, is well-known - and often caused by Norton (no surprise there then?) - try this.... Do a Search for the file WININIT.INI - if you find it, then rename it to WININIT.JNK, and reboot - your problem should be gone. If you don't find it, then try this - Start|Run - enter SCANREG /FIX into the dialog box, and click OK - windows will reboot - see if that fixes it. Glad we were able to help, Peter
BTW - you may find it a good idea to remove the rest of the Norton cr%p from your PC - the normal uninstall leaves one heck of a lot of it behind! - use teh RNAV2003 tools from here for this purpose (and then a manual cleanup is still a good idea if you have the knowledge and confidence!) http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...212100807?Open Good Luck! -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Peter David" wrote in message ...
