Default Mobo swap

The motherboard swap went fine. 99 vintage Via to 2005 Intel. 99 vintage
Amd to 2004 Intel cpu. Stripped drivers etc., installed new mobo drivers in
98SE. Uneventful.

Want to swap com 1 connected 33K telco to USB connected 56K version modem.
PC is using AO-hell for internet/mail. Not familiar with AOL, the change is
for my daughter's PC. USB 2.0 is up and running.

....and something useful is supposed to appear?

Did you try this, Brian? There ain't nothing worthwhile when you do that. I just
tried a number of different search terms for things I'd like to know how to do with
AOL as far as configuration, and all the search hits are nothing but a bunch of
marketing and press releases.

Sure did with results being support articles. I didn't provide a link
because it was late and it seemingly appeared to me one of them goofball
links that take you where I started anyhow. Now I see I was hallucinating.

Here's the result form my search as stated in my response:

OK, got it....sorry.....the problem was that I was using Opera browser. The aol
help site just does not work with it. Going to help.aol.com in IE or Firefox *does*
work, and I can input the search terms and get the same results you got.

Using your directions from the first link also works in IE and Firefox, but not
Opera. So bottom line....can't use Opera if I want to use AOL Help. :-)

My son says, bottom line, if the modem ain't listed in AOL (version 6.0)
program for connection, you can't use it for AOL. He says there is a
boatload listed though.
USB modem has it own driver etc in windows off of maker's CD says daughter.
(She says it has a CD with it, so am assuming this).
Don't want to trash her AOL (6.0).
We're going to clean install version 9.0 of AOL in XP on same PC for
grandkids use, and XP updates etc.
Dual boot system using system commander for boot manager. Grandkids are
locked out of Win98SE in system commander, only can use XP.

After going back again, I'll be damned that it appears 80% of their
support is linked to an MS KB article.

Damn, first time I've not been able to even find a trace searching.
AOHEdblhkystinks site is terrible and they push you off to MS KB articles.
Nary a crumb could be found on compatible/approved USB devices. Sure glad
I never had to deal with them!
