Attn: Gary Terhune - problem fixed
Although the drive works without being seen in DM, it still bothered me
and constantly "niggled" away in the back of my brain. This evening, I remembered that the VIA Miniport driver was originally intended to supplement and expand the native Windows IDE controller even though it hasn't been needed for some time. I did not previously have it on my system as it wasn't needed with the Maxtor 80Gb drive. But ... with nothing to lose and seriously considering returning these drives, I dug out a copy and installed it. Voila!!! All drives are now seen in DM, no flags on the controllers and the transfer rate is back to where it should be again. So, Gary .. thanks for your effort and time ... Take care, do good and have fun ... -- PoGo www.pogo123.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Teaching a pig to sing wastes your time and annoys the pig". |

Cool! Thanks for reporting back. Now, if you have any time eg, I hear
there's a couple of other similar threads been going on for some time and getting nowhere. Perhaps they have the same problem? I'm not familiar with the technology you mention. Would be better if you got directly involved. Seriously. I suspect that you'd be doing at least one person a *big* favor. Search on "Maxtor" -- Gary S. Search on "Maxtor" ----------------------------------- If, Gary, you were referring to the: "Adding a Maxtor 160gig in Windows 98SE?" post, I've read it and don't think I have anything to contribute at this stage. Several people have responded and one more cook, might just screw up a good dinner. I do disagree with one item I saw (but it's as much personal taste as anything) and that was over Maxtor's install utility. The author doesn't like it, but I thnk it's positively bulletproof .. naturally, for Maxtor Drives, and far faster than Fdisk followed by Format. Other than that, the original poster is getting ALL the help he needs ... if he can sort through it all. If you think me wrong in not contrinuting further, don't hesitate to tell me (a needless statement if there ever was one) ... Take good care ... -- PoGo www.pogo123.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Teaching a pig to sing wastes your time and annoys the pig". |
