Default changing color display from 16bit to 256 colors

When I first got this pc the color graphics were set
at 256 colors / 600x800 pixels. It is now at 16bit /
480x640 and I can't change it back using the windows
settings.
reset and restart with no results.
what am I doing wrong?

Is it 16-bit or 16 colours? If it's 16 colours then you probably need to
install the correct video adapter drivers for your video adapter card. In
Device Manager, what's the description of the video adapter card drivers?

Default changing color display from 16bit to 256 colors

been in 16 cols and 256 cols half my computer life, and it's kinda nice,
doesn't mess up your eyes that much

boot to safe mode on 9x/Me/2k/xp or try last known good configuration on
2k/xp/2k3

if it doesn't work, just go to system properties and see what video adapter
you have, mabe it doesn't support more than 8bit color

some adapters don't suport 8 bit colors on 800x600 resolution, set the
resolution to 640x480 and then the color depth to 256 colors or 16 bit

cheers,
Costea Bogdan
