Default Suddenly Missing both CD Rom Drives

I went to use some work files on a CD disk but it wouldn't open. I went to
"My Computer" and both cd drives (D & E) were missing. Went to control panel.
system, device manager and in the hard drive controllers there are
exclaimation marks on both the Primary IDE and secondary IDE controllers.
Since I can't use the cd rom to re-install the drivers from my motherboard
disk, What Now? I removed the SIS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller and rebooted
thinking it would repair itself. Computer works ok otherwise.

Right idea, hope you're referring to Win9X.

Use Safe Mode to remove all hard drive controllers, hard drives, and cdrom
devices including any ghosts and questioned devices in Device Manager.
Restart in Normal Mode and see what happens. Post the results or if more
questions.

Click Start Run, type in: regedit and press Enter
Navigate to: hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolsets\servi ces\vxd\ios

In the right pane see if there is an entry "NoIDE". If there is, delete the NoIDE
entry, close out and reboot.
