will win98se automatically install a 250mb ide zip drive?
I was using win98se with an edited msdos.sys file to boot to a command
prompt. Now we have to change that to boot windows normally. A guy is going over to put in a zip drive. Will windows install it properly? All we need is a drive to backup a dos program from within the dos program. No need for fancy utilities or iomegaware. Thanks. Also.... when a person "restarts in msdos mode" what config and autoexec file gets loaded? Is it config.syd? Many Thanks. |

If it is an IDE ZIP-drive -- Win98SE will recognize it.
...."restarts in msdos mode" what config and autoexec file gets loaded? The result of common Config.sys and Autoexec.bat will be used (they won't be processed by new), and in addition to Autoexec.bat there will be processed Dosstart.bat (if exists) from Windows folder. You can consider it as Autoexec.bat extension. Is it config.syd? No -- config.syd is a backup of the old Config.sys after editing it in Sysedit. -- Mikhail Zhilin http://www.aha.ru/~mwz Sorry, no technical support by e-mail. Have an older PC, bios date is May 98. Sees the Zip just fine. Works with
98SE and ME just fine. Works just fine as the alternate floppy drive B: just fine, or the D: drive just fine. No IoMega crap loaded. It is the original Zip drive, instead of the larger capacity you're mentioning though. How to setup the Zip as a floppy drive letter (a: or b, or some subsequent removable drive letter is a matter of setting the jumpers on the Zip drive properly. Go to IoMega site for this info.
