Thanks to you and Glee. This sounds like just the kind of
advice I needed. Also, stuff I would never, at my level,
have intuited; and stuff not hinted at by the Nero
installation, so far as I can recall.

Deinstalling Easy CD Creator will be a risk if Nero lets
me down again, since I don't think I have an installer
(although I'll take a look) included in the factory load,
but it may be a risk I have to take.

So far as the "worst case scenario" goes, been there,
done that, went back to a clean factory load and spent
a day hoping a full restore of my pre-Nero tape save
would work -- it did, and I could face it again.

You don't have to deinstall EZCD - I have that AND Nero installed on my
machine. I meant you don't need the "DirectCD" part of it, that's all.

I don't recall if you can separately uninstall the DirectCD part or not, but
if not, maybe it's no biggie, as long as you don't have InCD installed on
there too.

At least in the vesrsions I have used, if you re-run Roxio setup while it is
installed, it gives you the option to add or remove components....though it may not
be in so many words.

A followup: I took your advice, and my problems went away.
With DirectCD and, for good measure, InCD purged, and with
the cleaning tools from Nero applied, the Nero suite
(Nero Express 6, Nero Vision Express 2, Nero Show Time,
etc) installed much faster, and my machine started ok.
So far, testing of the Nero software is going well.
I was gratified to find that it occupies much less than
the 750MBy threatened by the system requirements for the
drive, just a hundred plus MBy which is practically
nothing these days.

This wouldn't have happened without the help I got here.
So far my support email to Nero has gone unanswered,
although maybe I need a bit more patience with them.
And on my reinstallation I was particularly alert this
time to warnings about what might be on my system,
causing trouble -- nothing. Navigating Nero's website
yields only hints that the moderately knowledgeable
might realize were applicable, certainly nothing relating
to installation problems in particular that I could find.

Thanks again.

Great news, Anthony. Glad it worked out for you.
The Ahead Nero web site does a good job of hiding the info. It used to be fairly
easy to find, but the site has been revamped and made "flashier", making it harder
to find the kind of technical info one often needs.
