Not connecting to website
Hi,
I'm not sure where to post this so I thought I'd try here first. Problem: For years I've been reading the Guardian on;ine edition and haven't had any problems. About a moth ago I tried hooking up high speed and for various reasons I went back to dialup. Everything works fine except this one link which is to the Guardian........the banner for the page comes up but text does not get displayed. Any suggestions on how to fix this would greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan |

A link to the page in question would help.

Oh right.
Here's the link. http://www.guardian.co.uk/ I've been using this link forever, it also will not come up on explore or Opera. I'm using Firrefox and I get the logo in the uper left hand corner and that's it. I've cleared the cache and that hasn't changed things. If I google a columnist for the Guardian I sometimes can acess that page but that happens very sporadically. It's irritating becuase I don't have this problen with any other site other than if it's down or unavailable from there end. Much appreciated. ps- I have alot of text documents and I would like to read them without printing them out and sittinghere at my computer are there any text readers available. A laptop would be good but I really need just for reading. Any suggestions on what I or where I might look we be great . Dan "Gary S. Terhune" wrote in message ... The site comes up fine on my system...and I have ActiveX disabled ( amoung
other things ). Is it possible that you hard coded the sites IP address somewhere? If you did and they changed it, that would be the problem. "Dan" wrote in message ... Oh right. It's irritating becuase I don't have this problen with any other site other than if it's down or unavailable from there end. Works fine for me. Unfortunately, I'm not using other browsers, so I can't cover all the bases, but I can offer these more extensive clean-up and repair suggestions. Just to be sure, did this problem started happening when you returned to dial-up from DSL, or did it happen earlier? Also, what are you using for internet protection? Anti-spyware, Google toolbar, antivirus, firewall, etc.? Before doing anything else, reset IE Security settings to Default for the Internet Zone. See if that fixes it. Here's some steps to try. 1. See my articles: http://www.grystmill.com/articles/cleanboot.htm http://www.grystmill.com/articles/security.htm 2. Set up a Clean Boot, then run IE Repair from the Tools menu of System Information (StartRunMSINFO32) After the restart, manually launch your antivirus and firewall and try the web page. If still no luck, kill the firewall and try again. If still no luck, re-start the firewall. 3. Go into Internet Properties on the Programs tab, Manage Add-Ons button, and disable all of the add-ons. Just to make sure, restart your system and restart AV and Firewall. 4. Post back here with the results and the answers to my questions above. 5. Consider posting to a newsgroup dedicated to IE6 and/or other browsers. People who may more readily recognize the problem. Much appreciated. ps- I have alot of text documents and I would like to read them without printing them out and sittinghere at my computer are there any text readers available. I haven't had an opportunity to review all your suggestions yet Gary but in
answer to your question... it happened after I had gone back to dial up that was about a month ago. It was working fine with dial up and fine with high speed but when I returned to dial up it was in the state it is now. All this was through the same internet provider which I've never had problems with. "Gary S. Terhune" wrote in message ... "Dan" wrote in message ... Oh right.
