internet and acrobat probs
Hi! After an extensive search on several NGs, I found two others with the
same problem but no one with a solution. Here's one axample: This one is ironic. Whenever Acrobat (I have version 5.0) or the Reader loads, it kills my internet connection. I run Windows 98 SE and use a one-way cable modem with dynamic IP address. My ISP tech support had never seen this one before, but they did help me figure out that, for some reason, when Acrobat (or Reader) loads, my PC forgets the IP address it has been assigned. I have to reboot to get another one. This is amazingly annoying since I generally want to be online while using these products, either reading PDF files or checking out ones I have posted. Search your hard disk for a file named AOM.exe. Either delete it or rename it to aom.bak and see if the problem goes away. I've deleted the above mentioned file but it makes no difference. What ecould be causing this? I'm using WinME and a DSL pppoe internet connection. Thanks a heap!! |

Try the latest from Adobe: Acrobat 7.0 (downloadable from
www.adobe.com); I'd suggest using the basic reader. Rick MajBach wrote: Hi! After an extensive search on several NGs, I found two others with the same problem but no one with a solution. I must concur with you, Noel - v7 loads very quickly here in XP
Did a 'complete' uninstall of v6 thru' 6.0.3 (and Chinese fonts etc.) which took longer than the new installation g AND - no sign of WISPTIS !! AND - AcroRd32 closes after use. So far, seems a lot better (not that I had any problems with it before g) Mart "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... 5 wasn't too bad - 6 was atrocious 7 is a lot better than 6 - at least in XP g -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm In fond memory of one of life's Gentlemen - Alex Nichol http://www.aumha.org/alex.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Rick T" wrote in message ... In XP, it's certainly worth the upgrade, Joan - go for it!
