"Mart" wrote in message ... Well, here we are at the start of 2009 and not only are the MS WinMe Updates still available, but also AVG (Free) definitions are still automatically downloading themselves to my WinMe boxes. There's still life (and hope) for the old kit yet. And a Happy New Year to those who still lurk in the WinMe Groups Mart I'm still lurking. A Happy New Year to one and all. Godfrey |

LOL!! Sorry to have confused you, me olde Lancastrian. I may have just
been musing via email, but had forgotten about the "pickle" one gets in (pun intended) if reinstalling the O/S. I just have to hook up the old machine to the router, which is probably right up there with installing drivers for me!! I detest this router because it was made by a man.....and definitely has instructions for a man!! (which means there are none that make sense cuz men don't follow directions, grin) Someone on here suggested a program for properly setting up the DLink wireless router, so may get brave and use that. I also have the latest freebie ZA Pro on here but have not enabled it. The XP firewall works just fine. So......a Happy New Year to All and 2009 has to be better than 2008 in my book!! If anyone hears from Noel, send him a couple of hugs and a partridge in a pear tree. XX Heather/Figgs "Mart" wrote in message ... Mike, I must admit that I did read it that way too (ie it was now fixed). But was completely misled by Heather's reference to her "as I told Mart, all I kept getting was "looking for explorer.exe" reference. I only mentioned SR in case there were still some unresolved issues. Figgs, the only (recent) back reference to "Noel's version soup" that I have been involved with was between myself and Jag53 and Ben (Myers) last October. Ah! - I found a reference between yourself and Mike in August to "version soup" when I chirped-in to suggest that you were 'Pickle Lilly', but your "looking for explorer.exe" reference completely escapes me. Anyway, I'm pleased - but not surprised! - that WinMe all worked out OK in the end. It usually does g I'm also pleased that you've got a sensible back-up regime running (BTDT). Sounds an impressive device, doing differential back-ups too. Mart (A tired Lancashire - not Cumbrian - Lad, but did have a few strong tinnies) "Heather" wrote in message ... Ahhhh, Mikey.....you and I must be on the same wavelength (G). That is exactly what I said, but the poor Cumbrian Lad must be a wee bit tired (some strong ale perhaps?) and missed that. LOL. No, Mart.....I mentioned it to you in passing a couple of months back when I was thinking of how to reload WinME, which of course is impossible with an OEM disc. You had advised I would have Noel's "version soup". Not sure why or how the $120 Cyber Power surge protector got hit (same circuit as this computer with an APC one) and/or why it prevented WinME from working. But then again, if there are strange and weird things that could happen, they happen to me. Sorry I haven't been my usual Xmas card sending self......long story which I will write off the ng. Tooth still not fixed (since Sept) and next week is yet another cat scan for another problem. Ain't old age fun?? (G) Elayne was here for two weeks and we had a nice, lazy time of it. We made a lot of jewellery and her stuff is so amazing. I will fire off a picture or two of that and her darlin' dog named "Rufus". OH, and I bought a neat gadget called "Clickfree" which is a 250 gig automatic backup which I just plug in via USB port.....sure beats burning backup CD's. Happy New Year to all of you and will write in a day or two. Cheers.....Figgs "Mike M" wrote in message ... However, since I don't recall your post regarding a "looking for explorer.exe" error report, have you tried a System Restore? Mart, No need. As Heather says, the PC's now working. The mysterious "explorer" not found message was when her old Win Me PC was (previously) connected to an apparently non-functioning surge protector (or that's how I read Figgs' post). -- Mike M Mart wrote: Heather wrote :- ... because as I told Mart, all I kept getting was "looking for explorer.exe"...... Err... When? Did I miss a post somewhere?? Are my little grey cells fading so fast??? Plus if I plug it in today, it runs thru what I have already backed up and just adds the new stuff.....which are usually pictures so damn glad to have this gadget. AND.....I can print from it and so on. I was going to buy an exterior hard drive, but this does the job and 10 things more, so to speak. They don't have a Mac one yet, but once it is out, Elayne will be buying one. She does love her *toys*......she had her new Apple do-hickey here that is the same as a Blackberry. (memory is the first thing to go, btw) Cheers again......Figgs |

I've had mine for about 8 months now and I back up this XP desktop, my Vista laptop, and my wife's Vista desktop on a regular (monthly or more often) in no time at all. Hi there, my favourite hockey fan......so nice to see you still drop in. I saw this gadget on the Home Shopping Club and was really impressed and decided to give it a shot. Just got it before Xmas. Elayne uses Macs, of course, so I will write them and see just when they are bringing one out for her machines. (graphic artist) It sure is an amazingly fast backup....Elayne and I were photographing a lot of the jewellery we make and adding it to this computer, so it got a couple of workouts after the initial one. Just super!! Unfortunately it won't do WinME.....guess I should have read the literature first, lol. Best.....Figgs |

Hi Heather,
Haven't actually spoken to Noel since just before Christmas but he sent me a Christmas text g I'll pass on your regards when I phone him next. What wireless card has your WinME machine got inside it, mine just connects with no problems and it's in the next room to the router. Mind you I know what you mean with regards instructions for them, the book that came with mine has pages telling you all these marvellous things you can do, only problem is it doesn't tell why you may want to do them or how to do them g -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher http://lachsoft.com/photogallery "Heather" wrote in message ...
