Windows 98 set up on my computer. Children were playing a game and informed
me that they couldn't bring up windows any more. When system is booted it
stays at the c prompt but it does show the Windows 98 logo screen before it
goes back to dos c prompt. I am not totally computer illiterate but not sure
what is going on here. I checked the directory and all data is still there?
any suggestions-Kids getting bored. Thanks for your time

When you get to a C: prompt, type: CD Windows and hit enter.
At the Windows prompt, type: win and hit enter.

Does that get you into Windows and, if so, does it work properly after a
reboot?

Boot up and when you get to the C: prompt (DOS), type EXIT and press Enter.

If that does not reboot you to Windows, at the C: prompt (DOS), type the following
and press Enter:

win /wx

(That's W I N space / W X )

Post back with your results. If that does not fix it, I'll describe another
procedure for you.

What does the /wx do? (For that matter, what other switches are there?)

Thanks for those. (The first, in particular, doesn't display properly in
Netscape [7.2], but View Source got me to the text.)

Wow, you use Netscape! Have you considered using Mozilla Firefox or
adding it as well. It currently is my favorite browser because of 256
bit AES encryption, tabbed browsing and plugins such as GeoTrust plugin
to allow users to search Google and comes back with safe sites to browse
to and the plugin area is encrypted to prevent bad people from monkeying
with the plugins.
