Default Browser not completing "connection"

Robear (PA Bear), thank you for trying to help me. I appreciate those
articles. I wish I could say the problem is resolved, but it isn't.
When I restored my configuration to an earlier snapshot, I solved two
IE problems, including the one of the browser not completing the
log-in process at Yahoo.

The remaining "connectivity" (that's how I think of it) problem is
clicking on a hyperlink in OE5 email and only a blank address browser
window being opened.

I worked through both of the link docs you provided. My File Folder
options matched fine. On the second reference, the knowledge base
article, I ran the regsvr32 for each of the dlls listed. It did not
resolve the problem. :-(

I then checked my HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\ registry values
against those indicated in the MS knowledge base article, and they
match, with one exception: I have an additional entry. In addition
to the ProxyStubClsid and ProxyStufclsid32 folders, there is a
NumMethods folder, Name: Default, Data: "7"

I haven't a clue what any of this is, I only know enough to open
RegEdit and follow directions to "check" entries.

The article doesn't say what to do if the entries don't match. It
says if this doesn't work, then reinstall IE.

Looks as if I will either have to live with the annoyance (it's not
fatal, just inconvenient) or install IE6 (dont wanna). Well, no, I
guess I should first go to MS Update site and check on that patch you
mentioned. If it is really recent, I may not have it. Not long ago,
I caught up on critical updates recommended by MS, including whatever
parts of SP1 applied to my pc (MS Update decided that part of it).

Speaking of side effects, one annoying side effect of those updates is
what it did to my ability to view webpages offline. Prior to the MS
updates, webpages were cached in Temporary Internet Files as I
browsed. If I wanted to look at webpages offline, all I had to do was
fire up the browser, click on History and click on the url. Some
pages were not available, but most were. Very handy at time, very.
Now, the browser refuses to open ANY cached pages offline, says they
are not available offline, even though they still appear to be cached
in the Temporary Internet Files folder. They still take up space but
I can't get at them. Instead, if I want to view a webpage offline, I
have to go through the whole process of manually making it available
offline. Grrrrrrr. I don't always know at the time I am on a webpage
that I might want to take a quick second look later. That change
really does upset me.
